what is the GYM to you?

it’s NOT a place to pick up chicks/dudes, it’s NOT a place to text, read the paper, chit chat with friends while others are waiting for that piece of equipment, it’s NOT a runway platform, it’s NOT for the weak of will or of heart, it’s NOT somewhere you go to “hang out”.

Let me tell you what it IS for.

The gym is a sanctuary of blood, sweat and tears. Where you leave it all out on the floor and know that you gave 100% for each and every rep and set with those weights and every minute you spend on that piece of cardio equipment. It IS the place where you begin your dream of that gold medal, that trophy, that moment you cross the finish line. It’s my church, my life, MY GYM is where I grow as a person, as a competitor, as a human being. It’s where I mold the best ME I can be. It builds self esteem and self worth. Respect it, own it, be it…be all of it, all of you!

Easter is just around the corner and you know what that means…..more chocolate! So when temptation comes your way, ask yourself a quick question. Is it really worth the moment of indulgence? If your answer is no, probably not, then don’t eat it. There’s nothing wrong with having something sweet in moderation. BUT there is that key word MODERATION. Enjoy life but be sure there is a balance. Exercise your mind and your body and sure, indulge once in awhile, in moderation. Ok you get it lol

Choosing a gym can be a heck of a task! Especially if you’re not sure what to look for. Here are some tips that could help you decide.

1. Choose something close to your home or your work. You are more likely to go if you don’t have to travel far.
2. What are the hours the gym is open? Does it jive with your schedule?
3. What are your goals and does the gym cater to them?
4. Are the staff friendly and knowledgeable?
5. Does the gym provide adequate parking and facilities that suit your needs? eg. showers, child care

These are a few things to consider when choosing your gym. It’s important to feel at home, after all, the more comfortable you are where you train, the more likely you are to frequent the facility.

The Christmas season is a time to be with loved ones, family, friends and fur kids. It’s also a time to eat. Nothing says that you can’t indulge at Christmas time, but do so in moderation. Otherwise, you might end up with the Christmas fruitcake around your midsection or buttom. Not fun! So to avoid the slump after the holiday season, eat smart, eat in moderation, drink in moderation and don’t put off your workouts! Nuff said! haha

Now get out there and spread some holiday cheer! Stay safe and eat/drink responsibly.

From all of us here at Elite Instruction xoxoxo Merry Christmas!

What is it that inspires you to train? What motivates you to get your butt out of bed and hit those weights, the treadmill or the field? Let’s touch on one way you can find motivation and accountability in fitness.

Grab a partner! Not just any partner though. Train with someone who inspires you. If they don’t push you to go beyond your comfort zone, if they don’t motivate you to achieve your goals, they aren’t the right training partner for you. I love to train with my fellow competitors, they push me beyond my limits and celebrate with me when the results show on stage.

Decide right now who you’d like to train with and ask them to come with you to your gym, your field or wherever it is you find your fitness. Try it out, see what happens, I bet you’ll love it!

There’s a topic going around right now that I’ve read about on facebook and otherwise that I’d like to touch on. First a question, why do you play or participate in your chosen sport? Now do you think everyone in your sport has the same reasons? Of course not! Some do it for fun, some for the love of the game/sport, some to cross it off their bucket list….whatever the reason, whatever the goal, no one person is correct. If you are in a sport that is deemed to be professional, well then that would be a different story. Most of the athletes in this world are not professional athletes and as such, you may come across those that are less seasoned then yourself, or maybe you are the one that is less seasoned. Either way, have fun and love it thoroughly! Let’s all remember that good sportsmanship is always key. You can be competitive and a winner without judging those around you. There are actual “judges” and “referees” for just that role. Focus on yourself and love your sport and those who participate in it, all of those that participate in it!

There are many people out there today that are in a state of depression. Maybe this is you, maybe it..

There are many people out there today that are in a state of depression. Maybe this is you, maybe it isn’t. I think we can all agree though that we aren’t in a positive place all the time. During our times of being “down” what do we WANT to do? Some may answer eat, some sleep, some watch tv and just shut out the world entirely. All of these answers are not, well, the right answer. The right answer is exercise!

Exercise boosts your mood and lowers the feeling of depression or feeling of being “down”. It helps boost your self esteem because in turn you feel great and you look great!

When you exercise your body releases endorphins and they trigger positive feelings in your body that push out the negative. Some people might even call the feeling after they work out, or go for a run as “euphoric”. That’s the endorphin rush.

We all know or have experienced how hard it is to get off your butt and go to the gym, especially if you are feeling “down”. So decide right now that if you are in that moment, or when you get in those moments, you will hit the gym, even if you don’t really want to.

Trust me, you won’t regret it!

So many of us forget to take care of our minds as well as our bodies. Truth be told, our mental fitness is just as or MORE important then our physical fitness. WHAT?! Ok, hear me out. If your mind isn’t fit, do you really think you can convince your body to be? Nope, trust me. Firstly, your mind is in control of your actions. Unless you set your goals, how are you going to achieve them…thus, the mind.

Some great ways to exercise your mind include:
- reading
- meditation
- positive affirmations spoken aloud
and so much more!

I find that when we get busy with “life” we forget to do these types of things that exercise our mind and when that happens, we in turn, don’t exercise our bodies. Make sense?

If you would like to get involved in mental training with us at Elite, feel free to hit us up on our contact page to set up a free consultation. Start now, NO EXCUSES, you are worth it!

Circuit training is a method of resistance training, or weight training, that maximizes the volume of work done in a short..

Circuit training is a method of resistance training, or weight training, that maximizes the volume of work done in a short period of time. It consists of performing multiple exercises on multiple body parts in a row with little rest in between exertions.

Long Term Benefits
Circuit training is a type of interval training. It is a great way to increase the body’s ability to burn calories when it is at rest. The heart rate goes up very high, returns to a lower, but still elevated state, and then goes up very high again. At no point during circuit training does the heart rate return to its resting rate. Circuit training, and interval training overall, increases the amount of oxygen that a person consumes post exercise, and therefore, increases the number of calories that a person burns throughout the day.

It can be used to achieve an increase in lean body mass and a decrease in weight.

Separate cardiovascular training is not necessary. All body parts are trained in one session, and therefore, exercisers do not need to work out everyday.
